Forgotten Tales – All The Sinners

Here we have some European styled power metal from the other side of Atlantic. This is the second self-released album from these Canadians. The influences are quite clear, but you can't reinvent the wheel, right? I'm not a very big fan of female vocalists (I don't know why), but Sonia Pineault sounds really good to my ear (maybe I just should listen more of this kind of bands?). She has a really pleasant voice to listen to, not too high or too low.

The first six songs are named as 'Pagan Chronicles', which is divided into six parts. First we get the symphonic intro, then couple of speedy songs in the vein of Helloween before thins get slowed down on 'Wind Oh Wind', which is more epic mid-tempo track. Then we get a Stratovarius styled speedy instrumental song, with lots of classical influences guitar leads and where Sonia delivers some operatic humming. 'March Of Victory' again brings some Rhapsody-influences to the mix (along with the intro). The first non-concept track 'Three Wishes' surpasses the 8-minute mark, being the longest track on the album. Some progressive influences can also be found from it. 'Fairytales' and 'My Soul' both start with keyboard intros, which are quite close to Stratovarius, but then again, it really doesn't matter, because they sound quite good.

The final note: despite the fact that they take lots of elements from other bands (mainly aforementioned), they still have succeeded of doing a good power metal album and a definitely the best I have heard in a long time. Maybe soon it's a time for a big break and a record deal? I sure hope so.
