HEAVY METAL MANIA
Forgotten Tales - The Promise
Forgotten Tales is a new band from Canada. In their debut album they play euro-power metal influenced by
Stratovarius, Rhapsody as well as Edguy. However, their music does not sound
ordinary as someone would promptly think. These guys have worked really hard on
their songs and they have filtered their influences very well, creating
something that sticks out from the rest power metal releases. The main
characteristic of their music though is the vocals. The band chose to use a
female singer and it sounds like they made a wise choice. Sonia's voice has
nothing to do with the eerie vocals of most atmospheric metal bands and it is
certainly not operatic, nor does she try to sound like a man. It is straight
forward, very distinctive and it fits very good with the music the band plays,
but it still needs some work to reach the desirable level. Most songs are fast
with epic themes as far as the lyrics are concerned and they will certainly
satisfy your thirst for good power metal. The production could have been
better, but this is rather usual for a self financed album. All in all, this is a very good debut
from an upcoming band that sets the foundations for a promising career in the
future.
