Forgotten Tales - The Promise
Seems to be some good talent coming out of Canada these days. Forgotten Tales is a melodic power metal act from Quebec City, consistent in nature with bands like Rhapsody and other acts that
incorporate majestic type metal with content dealing with fantasy stuff. The
band is fronted by female vocalist Sonia Pineault, who pulls off the vocals
very well, and is a five member force. "The Promise" is their first
full length release and the band actually had a few opening gigs with Nightwish
in Canada. If you are one of those that doesn't mind a
female fronted metal band, this band will definitely have appeal to you. Some
songs are combining hyper-fast razor-sharp riffing and thunderous drumming in
the vein of neo-classical bands like Sonata Arctica, with hymnal choruses
("World Of Truth", "Sanctuary").
There are some tunes here that could be compared to Stratovarius like
"Gates Beyond Reality" and "The Promise" -maybe it's the
keyboards- If you like the lighter side and added depth, then "Far
Away" and "She's Falling" are just for you. Finishing off the CD
is "The Tale Of Neeris", a four part track
conceptual in nature, consisting of "She's Falling", "Deadly
Grasp", "Endless Dream" and "The Promise". Forgotten
Tales is very tight and precise in their approach to their music. The album
might not be easily found in Europe, but you can listen a few samples of their songs on their great looking
website: http://www.forgottentales.com.
If you are into Rhapsody, Dark Moor and
European Melodic Power Metal, go ahead and give Forgotten
Tales a shot.
